Lithuanian Truckers Remain Detained in Belarus, Hopes Dim for Release
As of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Lithuanian transport companies are losing hope of recovering trucks and drivers detained in Belarus, according to reports. The ongoing situation highlights the strained relationship between Lithuania and its neighbor, and raises concerns about the treatment of foreign nationals within Belarus’s borders.
Belarusian authorities have indicated they intend to confiscate the vehicles, a move that would further complicate efforts to resolve the dispute. The issue has been ongoing for four months, leaving numerous drivers and their cargo stranded.
Lithuanian officials are actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to address the situation. Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, T. Valys, is continuing coordinated discussions with representatives from the Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association, “Linava.”
Leaders from “Linava” recently met with the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss potential strategies for securing the release of the trucks, and drivers. The organization is also preparing to appeal to the European Commission for assistance in resolving the matter.
The prolonged detention of the trucks and drivers underscores the challenges faced by transport companies operating in the region. The case highlights the potential risks associated with cross-border transportation in politically sensitive areas.
