Portable Charger Recall Issued Amid Overheating and Fire Concerns
Sernac was informed that a defect in a component of the power bank’s lithium battery could cause the product to overheat, posing a risk of fire or explosion. This issue highlights the importance of safety standards in the rapidly growing portable power market.
While no incidents have been reported in Chile, there have been 11 reported cases of related accidents in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
Consumers who own the affected power bank are advised to immediately discontinue use and store it in a safe, dry location away from flammable materials. The device should not be discarded in regular trash due to the fire risk.
Customers are eligible for a refund of approximately $39.990 (Chilean pesos) upon presentation of a purchase receipt or, alternatively, a photograph of the front and back of the power bank. Further details regarding the recall can be found on the Sernac website dedicated to this safety alert.
