SL Benfica’s track and field champions celebrated their national titles on Sunday, November 23, and shared their success with Vice President Tomás Barroso on Monday morning, November 24, at the Estádio da Luz’s sports complex. The visit underscored the crucial role club support plays in the athletes’ achievements.
World 1500-meter champion Isaac Nader symbolically presented a pair of shoes worn during the World Championship final to the club museum, highlighting Benfica’s constant presence in his journey. “It’s important to feel this more direct support from the Club,” Nader stated.
Athlete Salomé Afonso echoed that sentiment, telling BTV, “Especially in Portugal, athletics exists thanks to clubs, particularly Sport Lisboa e Benfica,” and emphasized that the recognition reflects the results they’ve achieved.
