Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, closing streets as firefighters, police, and ambulances arrived to assist. According to early reports, two individuals on a black motorcycle detonated a grenade, triggering the explosion.

Bogotá Metropolitan Police Commander General Giovanni Cristancho confirmed the death toll and the number of injured. “Two people who were traveling on a black motorcycle were the ones who threw the grenade,” Cristancho said. Those wounded were transported to Clínica Méderi and Hospital Santa Clara, where at least two required surgery due to the severity of their injuries.

The explosion prompted a response from Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, who confirmed the fatality of a 75-year-old man. “We already have a line of investigation that will allow us to identify those responsible,” Galán stated, adding that a total of 14 people were evaluated by emergency services.
