Sharjah 24 – As’ad Khalil:

Brentford delivered a significant boost to Manchester City’s title hopes by holding league-leading Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in Week 26 of the English Premier League.

Following Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Fulham on Wednesday and Arsenal’s sixth draw of the season, the gap between the top two teams now stands at four points, with City in first and Arsenal in second. Brentford, meanwhile, improved their record to 40 points and currently sit in seventh place.

The first half saw limited action from both sides, with the clearest chance falling to Brentford’s Igor Thiago, whose header was brilliantly saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya in the 21st minute.

Despite controlling possession, Arsenal struggled to create opportunities in the second half, even after Martin Ødegaard replaced Iberechi Eze at the start of the second period.

Brentford broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Noni Madueke headed home a cross from Piero Hincapié.

Raya was called into action again to deny Thiago in the 67th minute and then thwarted Gabriel Magalhães’ long-range effort from Italian Michael Kayode before it could trouble the net (69th minute). Arsenal finally found an equalizer in the 71st minute, with Kyian Louis-Potter heading in a cross from fellow Dutchman, Seb van den Berg, following a long throw-in from Kayode.
