Raiders’ Brock Bowers Ruled Out for Sunday’s Game Against Titans with Knee Injury
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers will miss his second consecutive game, sidelined for Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans due to a left knee injury.
Bowers has not practiced this week, and head coach Pete Carroll stated he is “not quite there yet” in his recovery. The All-Pro pass catcher has been dealing with a PCL injury and bone bruise sustained in the Raiders’ season opener against the New England Patriots, with medical professionals advising rest as the primary course of treatment. Sources indicate Bowers attempted to play last week against the Colts but felt discomfort during walkthroughs. The Raiders’ offense will be significantly impacted by the loss of one of the league’s top receiving threats.
Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly acknowledged the impact of Bowers’ absence, stating, “You lose the premier tight end in the NFL, and play calling is different…You have to be able to make adjustments when you lose players like that.” However, the team is expected to have tight end Michael Mayer available after he cleared concussion protocol. Mayer, who suffered a concussion in Week 3 against the Washington Commanders, has been a full participant in practice this week and expressed excitement about returning to the field. Concussions are a growing concern in the NFL, and player safety remains a top priority for the league according to the CDC.
Kelly added, “We’ve always considered Mike a starting tight end in this league…We’re excited to get him back, and we’re going to need him against Tennessee.” The Raiders coaching staff hopes to have Bowers back on the field soon, as he continues to work through the rehabilitation process.
