Bruce Campbell, the beloved star of the Evil Dead franchise, revealed Monday that he has been diagnosed with a treatable, but not curable, form of cancer.

The 67-year-old actor shared the news on X, stating, “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”

Campbell explained that he is prioritizing treatment and will be stepping back from some professional commitments, including canceling several planned appearances at fan conventions this year. The news comes as Campbell continues to enjoy a career spanning decades, with roles in films like Maniac Cop, Escape from L.A., and the Spider-Man trilogy, as well as television appearances in shows like The X-Files and Charmed.

“The great news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail,” he wrote. “I’m posting this, as professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and operate in general need to take back seat to treatment. You’ll see several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.”

He added, “I’m not trying to enlist sympathy – or advice – I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will). That’s about it. I’m sorry if that’s a shock – it was to me too.” Campbell expressed hope to be feeling better by summer, with plans to tour with his new movie, Ernie & Emma, in the fall. He concluded with a characteristic note of resilience, saying, “Fear not, I am a tough old son of a bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.”

The announcement adds to a growing conversation about health and transparency among public figures, as actors increasingly share personal challenges with their fans.
