The celebrations at Édgar Rentería included a special recognition for Dilson Herrera, the Caimanes’ captain and a former Major League Baseball player, as he announced his retirement from professional baseball.
A spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky, adding to the festive atmosphere surrounding the championship win.
“Barranquilla will always be my home. I will return to Caimanes, in another role, but I will always come back,” Herrera said, reflecting on his time with the organization. “I spent four months thinking about what to say, but today I won’t say anything of what I’ve written. I want to thank this organization for rebuilding my career, thank you all, thank you Barranquilla.” Herrera announced he will begin his managerial career in the Dominican Republic.
