The International Music Festival of the Canary Islands (FIMC) will return to El Hierro with a series of three concerts at the new La Peña Auditorium. The lineup includes the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, pianist Gabriel Ducatenzeiler, and the Just 5 Brass group, performing between January 19 and 31, 2026. The autonomous government, which organizes the festival through its Culture department in collaboration with the island councils, has decided to offer season tickets for these three concerts, building on the success of the initiative in the previous edition.
Tickets are now on sale, as of Thursday, December 11, at www.festivaldecanarias.com, where season tickets can also be requested. A season ticket provides a 20 percent discount compared to purchasing individual concert tickets.
The 42nd edition of the FIMC will kick off in El Hierro on Monday, January 19, at 7:00 PM with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will present a special program dedicated to the Baroque period, introducing audiences to the beautiful sound of the mandolin – an instrument historically linked to the Stradivarius workshop and prominent in Baroque compositions, despite its current association with popular and traditional music.
The Tenerife formation will perform two concertos for the instrument composed by Vivaldi, led and interpreted by Avi Avital, a Grammy-nominated classical mandolin soloist. Between these pieces, the orchestra will perform Bach’s Concerto in G minor.
On Sunday, January 25, at 8:00 PM, audiences can experience the versatility and virtuosity of young pianist Gabriel Ducatenzeiler Kapp. His program spans from the Baroque era (Bach) to contemporary works (Laura Vega), and includes pieces by piano masters like Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninov. The 23-year-old Gran Canaria native is quickly becoming one of the most promising pianists in the islands, having trained in Gran Canaria and Germany and earned several awards as he builds an active concert career.
Concluding the program is Just 5 Brass, a quintet of metal musicians from the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra. The group aims to bring the versatility and energy of brass sounds to a wide range of audiences. Their repertoire encompasses music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods to jazz, film scores, and arrangements of popular music, with a focus on contemporary composers and educational/family programs. The members are actively involved as soloists and teachers, combining their work with the OFGC with educational projects and collaborations with cultural institutions throughout the archipelago.
Just 5 Brass will perform at the recently inaugurated La Peña Auditorium, located on the Tibataje cliffside next to the viewpoint, on Saturday, January 31, at 8:00 PM. Their program will feature pieces by composers Farnaby, Bernstein, and Piazzolla.
The group consists of Ismael Betancor Almeida and David Lacruz MartÃnez (trumpets), Miguel Morales Llopis (horn), Héctor Mora Cano (trombone), and Germán Hernández Marrero (tuba).
