Vasco da Gama has secured Carlos Cuesta on loan from Galatasaray, bolstering their defense with the Colombian international. The move, finalized after initial interest from Spartak Moscow, sees the 26-year-old center-back join the Brazilian Série A side.

According to TransferFeed, Vasco da Gama activated a clause to extend Cuesta’s loan through 2026, paying Galatasaray €1.5 million for the extension. The agreement also includes a €5.75 million option for a permanent transfer.

Cuesta, who currently plays for the Colombia national team, joined Galatasaray in February 2025 for a reported €8.0 million fee, as detailed in his Wikipedia profile. He previously spent six years with Genk, making 151 appearances and scoring four goals.

The defender has already made 13 appearances for Vasco da Gama during this loan spell, contributing one goal. He was also part of the Colombian squad that reached the final of the 2024 Copa América, though he served primarily as a substitute during the tournament. Cuesta earned his first cap for Colombia on September 9, 2021, in a World Cup qualifier against Chile.

Prior to joining Galatasaray, Cuesta developed through the Atlético Nacional youth system, making 61 appearances for the Colombian club between 2016 and 2019. This loan extension signals Vasco da Gama’s confidence in Cuesta’s ability to solidify their backline as they navigate the competitive Brazilian league.
