Bulgaria’s top weightlifter Carlos Nasar is set to compete at the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia, as the nation’s medal hopes rise ahead of his appearance.

The Bulgarian team has already secured a strong position in the medal standings at the 2026 European Championships, even before Nasar takes the platform in the men’s 94kg category. His arrival in Batumi has generated significant anticipation, with national broadcasters preparing live coverage of his lifts.

Nasar, who holds the world record in the clean and jerk for the 94kg division, will aim to add European gold to his resume while also pursuing new benchmarks in the snatch and total. According to reports, he is in excellent condition following recent training sessions, positioning him as a clear favorite for the title.

In the women’s 69kg event, Galya Shatova finished in 10th place with a total of 220kg — 102kg in the snatch and 118kg in the clean and jerk. Shatova admitted she felt pressure during her attempts but expressed confidence in her ability to improve, noting that competing in a new weight class requires time to build confidence.

Her performance was described as inspiring by specialists, highlighting her journey from a children’s home to the European podium. Despite the result, experts believe her potential continues to grow.

Television schedules for Nasar’s lifts have been confirmed, with live broadcasts planned throughout the competition. Fans can tune in to bTV and other sports channels to follow his attempts as he vies for a fourth consecutive European championship.
