Cartagena residents should prepare for widespread power outages today as Afinia, the regional energy provider, conducts scheduled maintenance on the electrical grid. The interruptions will affect numerous neighborhoods throughout the city and the nearby municipality of turbaco, beginning as early as 9:10 a.m. and continuing into the evening. Afinia, a Grupo EPM subsidiary, initiated these works as part of a $4 billion infrastructure investment plan aimed at improving service quality and reducing energy loss across its service area, which includes the departments of BolÃvar, Cesar, Córdoba, Sucre, and parts of Magdalena.
Afinia, the energy provider for the city of Cartagena, is undertaking infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving service quality and reliability. As part of this investment plan, the company has scheduled planned power outages across several neighborhoods.
The planned disruptions come as Afinia reports losses exceeding $300 million due to irregularities in energy consumption within certain areas of the Caribbean region, as detailed in a recent report. The company attributes these losses to unauthorized connections and non-payment.
