Celeste Rivas Hernandez Case: LAPD Confirms Only Body Concealment Charge Substantiated

Los Angeles police confirmed today that the investigation into the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez has, so far, yielded evidence supporting only a charge of concealing a body, sparking criticism and calls for further investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated in a release that no other criminal charges have been substantiated in the case, which gained national attention after Hernandez was reported missing earlier this year and her body was later discovered. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has also confirmed that no case has been presented for review or prosecution. This development comes as advocates push for a deeper look into the circumstances surrounding her death and the potential involvement of others.

The case has drawn scrutiny due to Hernandez’s prior relationship with David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, a 19-year-old singer. While the nature of their relationship remains unclear, investigators have not publicly addressed it. Los Angeles private investigator Steve Fischer expressed frustration on social media, stating, “Nowhere in the press release or in any official statements has there been mention of an investigation into the relationship David had with Celeste.” He added, “Even if people close to Celeste are unwilling to cooperate…charges should still be filed. We must prove we will protect children from predators.” The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides resources and support in cases involving missing children.

Law enforcement sources indicate the case remains open, but as of today, no new evidence of additional crimes has been confirmed. Community advocates say they will continue to pressure the LAPD and District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s office to pursue a broader inquiry into the events leading up to Hernandez’s death; the District Attorney’s office has not commented on these calls for further investigation.

Authorities stated they will continue to investigate any new leads that may emerge.
