In exchange, CF Montréal sent $500,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) and a conditional $125,000 in GAM for 2027 to Orlando City.
Thórhallsson has signed a contract with the Montreal club through the end of the 2027-2028 season, with a team option for the following year. Orlando City will also retain a percentage of any future sale of the player, according to the terms of the deal.
The 25-year-old right-back has made 116 appearances for the Florida-based club since joining Major League Soccer in 2023.
Dagur is a player we’ve been tracking since he entered the MLS. He fully embodies the style of play that our head coach, Marco Donadel, wants to implement. His ability to support the attack from the flanks, as well as his versatility, will offer different options for our team.
Luca Saputo, Chief Soccer Officer of CF Montréal, said in a statement.
Like fellow recent acquisition Brayan Vera, whose signing is expected to be confirmed in the coming days, Thórhallsson is a player in his prime, bringing MLS experience to support the younger players in the Montreal squad. Donadel clearly values players with a competitive edge, and Thórhallsson appears to fit that mold.
Thórhallsson has primarily played on the right wing throughout his career, but has also featured in midfield and occasionally on the left wing. In three MLS seasons with Orlando, he has tallied 9 goals and 11 assists.
Having logged 6402 minutes with the Lions, Dagur Thórhallsson will likely move ahead of Dawid Bugaj, Aleksandr Guboglo, and Bode Hidalgo in the pecking order at right-back. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty is also expected to return from his loan spell with Charlotte FC.
Before arriving in MLS, Thórhallsson played in Iceland, Norway, and Belgium. He has also earned 7 caps for the Icelandic national team, most recently appearing in a 3-1 victory over Scotland in June.
On Tuesday, CF Montréal confirmed they traded their third overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft to FC Dallas.
The club also sent one of its two third-round picks to the Texas club in return for $350,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and a second-round pick. This gives CF Montréal a second-round and a third-round selection in the draft, which will take place on December 18th.
The GAM received is allocated over two years, with $175,000 coming in 2026 and $175,000 in 2027.
