A Fresh Grab on a Classic: “The Three Sisters” Reimagined by Collectif BPM

Anton Chekhov’s timeless play, “The Three Sisters,” is receiving a vibrant fresh interpretation from the Swiss artistic trio known as Collectif BPM. The production, titled “Les Trois Sœurs à Trois,” promises a playful and inventive adaptation of the 1901 masterpiece.

Catherine Büchi, Léa Pohlhammer, and Pierre Mifsud, the artists behind Collectif BPM, are known for their unique approach to theater. Their previous work, “La Collection,” a humorous exploration of past objects, earned them recognition and an artistic association with the Théâtre de Suresnes. This new project continues their tradition of “intelligence, generosity and humour, at the service of popular theatre,” according to the theatre’s website.

The upcoming performances, scheduled for February 12-22, 2026, at the Théâtre Saint-Gervais in Geneva, will feature the three artists embodying twelve characters. Tickets and showtimes are now available.

Collectif BPM’s adaptation presents the story through the lens of radio journalists recording a live broadcast. They’re not simply retelling the classic tale, but rather exploring the numerous interpretations and stagings of Chekhov’s work itself. As the theatre explains, the production recounts “the real or fictional history of the countless productions of this emblematic work.”

The play delves into universal themes of longing, regret, and the pursuit of dreams, even as also examining the importance of family connection. “Raconter le désir de partir, le regret de ne pas en avoir la force, exprimer la nostalgie d’un paradis perdu depuis l’enfance, rêver un avenir radieux pour contrer l’ennui du présent, sont autant de préoccupations atemporelles qui tiraillent les personnages,” the theatre notes.

The production runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged 12 and up. A performance is also scheduled for May 5, 2026, at 8:30 PM at the Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar. More details about the Suresnes performance can be found on the theatre’s website.

This adaptation of “The Three Sisters” highlights the enduring appeal of Chekhov’s work and the innovative spirit of contemporary theatre. The performance is expected to draw audiences interested in both classic literature and cutting-edge performance art.
