Authorities are investigating the possibility of a third related homicide involving a stabbing that occurred shortly after the shooting.

Two men were shot and killed following a fundraising sporting event for victims of recent wildfires in southern Chile. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at La Florida Hospital.

The shootings occurred late Sunday in the Villa O’Higgins sector of La Florida, where a charity event was being held to raise money for families affected by fires in the Ñuble and Bío Bío regions. The incident underscores the growing concerns about violence even at community support events.

According to witnesses, an argument broke out during the sporting event on Aconcagua Street, leading to a confrontation between two groups and ultimately, the fatal shootings.

At Least 35 Shots Fired

The victims have been identified as two Chilean men, ages 45 and 41, both with prior criminal records. They were transported to La Florida Hospital, where medical staff determined one man had suffered 27 gunshot wounds and the other, eight.

The nature of the crime prompted the involvement of the PDI Homicide Brigade and the ECOH team from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by prosecutor Sergio Ortega. Investigators are working to determine the motive and identify those responsible.

Early evidence suggests that more than one firearm was used in the attack, indicating the involvement of multiple shooters, according to initial reports. “One of the deceased sustained at least 27 ballistic impacts, while the other at least eight, which suggests the participation of more than one shooter,” Ortega stated.

The Police Investigations Department’s Forensic Laboratory collected ballistic and biological evidence at the scene and is reviewing security camera footage in an effort to identify the perpetrators.

Possible Third Victim Under Investigation

Police are also investigating a possible third homicide that occurred around 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the Villa O’Higgins health center on Santa Julia Street. The victim, who arrived at the center in a private vehicle, had sustained at least six stab wounds.

Family members have not yet provided information, but authorities are investigating a potential connection to the double shooting. The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to piece together the events of Sunday night.
