Nerazzurri will host Arsenal at San Siro on matchday 7. Currently, only two teams have secured their place in the Champions League round of 16: Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who sit atop the group standings. The Gunners have been flawless, winning all six of their opening matches.

Inter currently sits in sixth place with 12 points. With only two group stage matches remaining, their position isn’t secure, as they are just three points ahead of teams outside the qualifying spots. Finishing in the top eight, and thus securing direct qualification, is Inter’s primary goal, avoiding a two-legged playoff tie.

Ahead of the match against Arsenal, Inter Milan is riding a five-match unbeaten streak, including a 1-0 victory over Udinese on January 17th.

“If we want to get three points and reach the round of 16, we need a great performance. Arsenal is the strongest team right now, along with Bayern. We respect their level and know they will make things difficult for us,” Chivu told Radio Rai 1.

“We have prepared well for this competition. We know our strengths. We will play bravely and try to win, because that will give us a much better chance of reaching the knockout stages,” he added.

Inter Milan holds the head-to-head advantage in their three previous Champions League encounters against Arsenal, with two wins to Arsenal’s one. Inter secured a 1-0 victory in a similar stage last season.
