South Korean indie game developer Circle From Dot has released a demo for its upcoming hard-core top-down action game, “Kusan: City of Wolves.” The demo is currently available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Players in South Korea will have access to the console versions of the demo starting in early April due to game rating processes. The release marks a significant step for Circle From Dot, a studio founded in 2018 that has dedicated the last seven years solely to the development of “Kusan.”
“Kusan: City of Wolves” challenges players to continuously defeat enemies using a variety of attacks, including melee, ranged, and auto-aiming options. The game emphasizes quick decision-making and precise execution, where a single mistake can lead to defeat. This focus on intense gameplay reflects a growing trend in the indie game space toward challenging, skill-based experiences.
In the game, players assume the role of ‘Jin,’ a retired military operative and fixer tasked with protecting a young woman with mysterious powers from a coup orchestrated by his former superior. The demo allows players to experience the beginning of the story and the first boss battle.
The game garnered attention at the Smilegate Indie Game Festival ‘Indigo’ where it received the grand prize, and has already attracted a global audience, with over 5,000 participants in a November Steam playtest and more than 30% of those on the game’s wishlist coming from outside of Korea. Circle From Dot signed a global publishing agreement with Pcube last year.
“Kusan: City of Wolves” draws inspiration from titles like “Hotline Miami,” offering a fast-paced, visceral action experience. A trailer for the game showcases its intense combat and unique visual style. The game’s development highlights the increasing sophistication and ambition of the South Korean indie game scene.
