Colombian Artists Unite for World Cup Song, Remember Yeison Jiménez

As the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico draws closer, eleven of Colombia’s most beloved popular music artists have united to create a song intended to rally support for the Colombian National Team. The collaborative track features Paola Jara, Jhonny Rivera, Jessi Uribe, Luis Alfonso, Arelys Henao, Francy, and other prominent figures in the genre.

Recently, Jessi Uribe spoke with I Heart Latino about the song’s creation and the lingering pain of losing Yeison Jiménez in a tragic plane accident that prevented him from contributing to the project.

“When Yeison’s accident happened, I spoke with him the day before since we were going to film the video at my house. I was going to have all the artists at my house. He told me, ‘papi, I’m running late, help me get a Colombia jersey, I’m a size L,’” Uribe recalled. “When I found out, it was terrible for all of us because that day we were all singing, and to learn what happened with his plane and everything… honestly, it affects all of us deeply.”

Uribe added that the experience prompted him to re-evaluate his priorities and appreciate life more fully. He reflected on how he had often prioritized work commitments over family, realizing that everything could change in an instant.

The artists involved, and fans alike, continue to mourn Jiménez, known affectionately as ‘El Aventurero.’ Online reactions to the song have been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their sadness over his absence. “The perfect union of popular music ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” one user wrote. Another commented, “How amazing it would have been to have El Aventurero there. 😢😢😍😍 So beautiful,” and “It’s so solid to see the genre united, beautiful,” while many others expressed missing Yeison Jiménez: “Yeison is definitely missed 🥺🕊️🤍.”

The song, a heartfelt tribute to the national team and a celebration of Colombian culture, comes at a time when national pride is running high as the World Cup approaches. Jhon Álex Castaño also recently experienced a close call at the same airfield from which Jiménez’s flight departed, adding another layer of emotion to the story.
