Residents of Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina are bracing for a multi-day period of limited water access following delays in repairs to the city’s vital ’99 aqueduct. Recent rainfall has hampered efforts to fix a damaged section of the pipeline, prompting authorities to implement a sectorized distribution plan beginning Monday, Febuary 2nd [[1]]. The disruptions impact both residential neighborhoods and industrial areas of the Patagonian city, a key hub for Argentina’s oil industry [[3]].
Residents of Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, are facing a phased water distribution schedule after repairs to a key aqueduct were delayed by recent rainfall. The disruptions come after a previously announced 24-hour water cut aimed at replenishing critically low reserves.
Work on the damaged section of the ’99 aqueduct, located between the Cerro Negro and Valle Hermoso pumping stations in an area known as Alma Gaucha, was slowed by inclement weather, according to local authorities. Crews are currently performing welding work necessary to repair the affected section, adjusting to the wet conditions.
The Department of Sanitation and the Aqueduct and Aquifer Systems Department reported that welding is expected to be completed around 4 p.m. local time on Monday. Following the welding, crews will compact the surrounding terrain and cover the repaired pipe.

Once the physical repairs are finished, the pipeline will be refilled to restore pressure to the system. Pumping will resume gradually as the system reaches adequate operational levels, leading to a progressive return to normal service.
