Funded by European Union grants, the “Green Corridor” will connect existing natural landmarks and residential areas with new pedestrian and bicycle pathways. Officials say the corridor is designed not only to improve mobility, but also to bolster Condeixa’s resilience to the impacts of climate change and foster a stronger connection between residents and the natural landscape. The Green Corridor will begin at the Alcabideque spring, a noted natural landmark in the municipality, and extend through Condeixa’s Green Park, crossing the Conímbriga 1, Conímbriga 2, and Quinta do Barroso residential areas. Plans call for the corridor to branch out into various parishes throughout the region.

According to Liliana Pimentel, the project will create continuous pathways for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, along with leisure areas, shaded spaces, and opportunities to enjoy the natural environment.

“This future green network will allow us to create continuous routes for gentle circulation, leisure areas, shaded spaces and areas for environmental enjoyment,” Pimentel said. The Mayor of Condeixa emphasized that the corridor will strengthen residents’ connection to nature while promoting accessible mobility and more sustainable lifestyles.

The project also includes plans for “green neighborhoods” and new community spaces designed to adapt to the effects of climate change, with the goal of making Condeixa a more resilient community.

“This Green Corridor will be an identifying mark of Condeixa in the coming years, bringing the population closer to its natural landscape and enhancing our environmental heritage,” Pimentel stated. The initiative underscores the municipality’s commitment to environmental sustainability and quality of life for its residents.
