History of Corazón Serrano: the origin of a cumbia legend
The story of Corazón Serrano began in the highlands of Piura, where the Guerrero Neira brothers took their first steps in music with limited resources. They sold bread to buy their first guitar, a simple instrument that marked the beginning of their artistic journey.
On February 3, 1993, they founded their first group and began recording songs in modest studios in Chiclayo. Years later, in 1996, they adopted the name Corazón Serrano en Piura, consolidating an identity that today positions them as one of the most important orchestras in Peru.
The initial stumble in Lima and how Corazón Serrano took off
The road to entering the Lima market was not easy. In 1997, capital radio stations did not bet on their proposal and their first television appearance on ‘La movida de los sábados’ had little impact. The tide turned in 2003, when Edita Guerrero registered ‘Milagrita,’ a song that connected with their audience and helped define the group’s musical signature. A year later, ‘Borracha perdida,’ performed by Irma, allowed them to record their first music video and establish themselves in the north of the country.
The definitive expansion came in 2010 with ‘Tu ausencia,’ a song that achieved rotation on various radios and opened the doors to national recognition. By 2012, television had incorporated them into its programming, strengthening their presence and reach throughout Peru.
