Darina Radeva, daughter of former Bulgarian president and leader of the Progressive Bulgaria party Rumen Radev, is set to make her theatrical debut in a leading role at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre.
According to reports from Bulgarian media outlets including Bgdnes.bg, and iNews.bg, Radeva will play Mariana – the beloved of Harpagon’s son – in Molière’s classic comedy The Miser. The production, directed by acclaimed Balkan director Slobodan Unkovski, is currently in intensive rehearsals and is expected to premiere in late May 2026.
Unkovski personally selected Radeva for the role, marking her first principal part on the national stage. Though she has appeared previously with the theatre company, this will be her first time carrying a lead role in a major production.
The play features a cast of nearly 30 actors from the theatre’s troupe, including Georgi Mamalev, Valentin Ganev, Nencho Kostov, and Mikhail Petrov, among others. The production is being positioned as one of the season’s most ambitious projects at the National Theatre.
Radeva’s casting adds to a growing trend of second-generation public figures pursuing careers in the arts, drawing attention not only for her familial background but also for the artistic merit of the production itself.
