New Reality Gameshow ‘De Box’ Promises Unexpected Challenges on VTM
A new reality competition is coming to Belgian television, challenging contestants to think swift and adapt to ever-changing rules. De Box, set to premiere on VTM on March 3, will lock ten unknown Flemish individuals in separate, mysterious yellow boxes, where they’ll face a series of unpredictable challenges each time the box opens.
The present, hosted by Koen Wauters and Wesley Sonck, will air twice a week. The contestant who lasts the longest through eight episodes will be crowned the winner and take home a €15,000 prize.
According to VTM, the hosting duo offers a unique dynamic, with Wauters being fully informed about the game and Sonck discovering the rules alongside the contestants.
“After many talent shows, I’ve long wanted to create an adventurous game show,” said Koen Wauters. “So when the opportunity for De Box came along, I didn’t hesitate. It was a pleasure to repeatedly unleash ten unknown Flemish people into a new, unknown arena and see how they would cope in a game without rules and without any preparation. Together with Wesley Sonck, I sometimes burst out laughing, but also sat on the edge of my seat. Because some scenarios we couldn’t have reach up with ourselves. And yet we had thought about it very well in advance. It is without a doubt a program that I would watch myself, even if I had nothing to do with it.”
Wesley Sonck echoed the sentiment, adding, “I think I’m the only co-host in the world who didn’t know in advance what program he was going to present (laughs). Together with the viewers and the candidates, I’m going to find out the rules of the game…”
The show is already generating buzz, with several contestants sharing their experiences. Loodgieter Lander (35) noted that even Sonck was kept in the dark about the show’s format. Dominique, a 53-year-old police inspector from Kapellen, expressed a desire to push her boundaries by participating, while Roos, a 26-year-old beauty specialist from Linter, saw the show as a chance to share some exciting news.
De Box will air every Tuesday and Thursday on VTM and VTM GO, offering a fresh take on the reality competition format and adding to the growing landscape of unscripted television.
