‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Confirmed with First Look at Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway

A first teaser trailer released today confirms a sequel to the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada, bringing back Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in their iconic roles.

The brief footage shows Streep as Miranda Priestly and Hathaway as Andy Sachs encountering each other in an elevator, with Miranda delivering the line, “Took you long enough,” a nod to both her character’s demanding nature and the 19-year wait for a follow-up film. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are also confirmed to reprise their roles, though they do not appear in the initial teaser. The film will return to New York City and the offices of Runway Magazine.

Hathaway previously expressed doubt about a sequel, telling reporters in April 2024, “I wouldn’t hold out too much hope,” and in 2022, stating, “I don’t know if there can be [a sequel]. I just think that movie was in a different era, you know?” The original film, based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, became a cultural touchstone, influencing fashion and workplace dynamics.

Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the sequel also features new cast members including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora; Sydney Sweeney was reportedly spotted on set, though her role remains unconfirmed. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for theatrical release on May 1, 2026, from 20th Century Studios.

Producers stated the film is currently in post-production and further details regarding the plot and character arcs will be released in the coming months.
