The honor recognizes the Center’s significant scientific and cultural achievements, having published a number of valuable books covering a diverse range of topics including manuscript heritage, history, literature, and poetry. Dr. Mohammed Kamel Gad, Director General of the Center, accepted the award during an official ceremony held on November 28th in Doha, Qatar, where Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Fund for Development, honored the winning creators and institutions.
Launched by Qatar in March 2023, the Arab Book Award aims to honor researchers, publishers, and institutions contributing to the Arabic book industry, encourage authorship in Arabic, and support knowledge production in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and Islamic studies. The award highlights Qatar’s commitment to bolstering Arabic language and culture on a global stage.
Hassan Al-Nuaimah, Secretary-General of the award, stated that “the award represents a bridge for intellectual and knowledge communication among scholars of the nation, and a beacon that illuminates the paths of literature, science, and art, and enhances the presence of the Arabic book Arabically and globally.”
Dr. Naji Al-Sharif, Executive Director of the Arab Book Award, expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the third edition, noting that the results were distinguished, especially given that the judging process was undertaken by a selection of specialized thinkers, each in their field.
The third edition of the award saw wide participation from more than 41 Arab and foreign countries, with over 1,000 nominations received, reflecting the award’s prestige and its role in supporting the Arabic book industry, promoting cultural dialogue, and establishing standards of quality and creativity in various knowledge areas, moving beyond traditional frameworks.
