Dubai’s ‘National Month’ Celebrations: Community & Heritage Events in Al Khwaneej & Jumeirah

Dubai is gearing up for a vibrant December as it hosts a series of community events celebrating the 54th anniversary of the United arab Emirates’ founding. Organized under the Dubai Frijan initiative and backed by key sponsors including du and Dubai Cares, the festivities aim to immerse residents and visitors in Emirati culture and strengthen national pride. celebrations will unfold across the Al Khawaneej and Jumeirah neighborhoods from December 1st through the 7th, promising a diverse array of activities and an anticipated attendance exceeding 90,000.

Dubai is hosting a series of community and heritage events throughout December to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates’ founding. The festivities, organized by the Dubai Frijan initiative, aim to showcase national values and strengthen community bonds.

From December 1 to 7, celebrations will take place in the Al Khawaneej and Jumeirah neighborhoods, offering residents and visitors a chance to experience Emirati culture firsthand. The Dubai Frijan initiative seeks to foster a sense of national identity by bringing these celebrations directly into residential areas, creating interactive spaces that reflect the UAE’s heritage.

The events, sponsored by the Community Development Authority in Dubai, du (the leading telecommunications and digital services provider), Dubai Cares, Aman Service, and Dubai Holding, will feature a diverse range of activities. These include cultural and heritage displays, workshops, interactive competitions, and local markets. Emirati talent and projects in creative fields, crafts, and arts will also be highlighted, alongside a selection of local restaurants, offering a comprehensive experience of Emirati traditions and diversity.

“We are proud to be part of the Union Day celebrations, a special occasion that unites us in our love for the nation and strengthens the sense of belonging among all citizens and residents,” said Alia Al Shamsi, Director of Dubai Frijan.

Al Shamsi added, “We chose Al Khawaneej and Jumeirah as locations to allow each neighborhood to express its unique spirit of the Union and celebrate the country’s land and sea heritage, providing an opportunity for as many Dubai residents as possible to participate in the joy and festivities.”

Organizers anticipate over 90,000 attendees this year, with 25 diverse workshops and 50 entertainment shows and competitions planned. More than 20 restaurants and 16 shops will also participate in the celebrations.

The Al Khawaneej area will host the “Al Warfa” event from December 1 to 3, focusing on supporting Emirati projects through workshops, competitions, and cultural performances. Traditional Emirati cuisine will also be available, alongside other diverse activities.

Meanwhile, the “Al Dana” event will take place on Jumeirah Beach from December 5 to 7, celebrating the UAE’s maritime heritage with workshops for children and adults, cultural performances, and local Emirati restaurants.

Reem Obaid Al Awadhi, Director of Community Programs at the Community Development Authority in Dubai, stated, “We are proud to partner with Dubai Frijan to revive national events that reflect the spirit of the Union and strengthen the community’s connection to its authentic heritage. Our sponsorship of these celebrations comes within the framework of our commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate Emirati identity and provide platforms that highlight values of solidarity and pride in Emirati history.”

She affirmed the Authority’s commitment to continuing constructive partnerships that contribute to raising community awareness and transferring heritage to new generations in innovative ways.

Adel Al Rais, Executive Director – Corporate Communications at du, said, “We are proud to sponsor the Union Day events in collaboration with Dubai Frijan and support initiatives that bring the community together around the values of identity and belonging. This initiative aligns perfectly with du’s vision of leveraging innovation and enhancing cooperation with all stakeholders to create positive change in society, including supporting national events that celebrate the history and culture of the UAE.”

He added, “We will continue to support purposeful programs that enhance community interaction and contribute to empowering the new generation to express and innovate.”

The Dubai Cares foundation confirmed its participation in the Dubai Frijan events for National Day is part of its efforts to instill a culture of giving in the community, by providing simple and direct opportunities for visitors to contribute to the proposed community initiatives. The foundation added that its participation also includes supporting and empowering local businesses by enhancing their presence and encouraging the public to interact with their projects, which supports the local economy and highlights the role of these businesses in serving the community.
