Eder Sarabia, current manager of Elche, revealed that the signing of Lucas Cepeda came about after speaking with Arturo Vidal, who recommended him for his mentality and preparation. Sarabia admitted that he consulted Vidal about Cepeda and asked him for a Colo Colo jersey as a gift.

Elche manager Eder Sarabia has openly admitted to Lucas Cepeda that his transfer hinged on a conversation with veteran midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Vidal and Sarabia previously worked together at FC Barcelona, where Sarabia served as an assistant to Quique Setién.

Footage released by Elche shows Sarabia questioning Cepeda about whether he’d spoken with Vidal before accepting the offer.

“Yes, he told me right away when you messaged me. He even sent me a jersey,” Cepeda responded.

Sarabia then confessed to Cepeda that he specifically sought Vidal’s opinion on his character: “We’d seen you play a while ago, back in the summer, and I asked him about your mentality.”

“I told Arturo: ‘If he has half the hunger and energy you had, that’s enough for us.’ And he said, ‘No, no, one hundred percent. We’re going to train together many afternoons, he’s very professional, very strong, and more than prepared for European football.’”

Sarabia also revealed he even asked Vidal for a favor: “I thanked him for what he did. I know he spoke with you and gave it a push. And the last favor I asked him was to send me a Colo Colo jersey,” he concluded with a laugh.
