Wichita State Cross Country Splits Results at Missouri Pre-National Invitational
Wichita State’s cross country team competed at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri yesterday, with the men’s team achieving a seventh-place finish while the women placed 24th.
The women’s 6-kilometer race saw BYU take the top spot with 25 points, while the Shockers finished 24th out of 38 teams. Senior Lucy Ndungu led Wichita State, completing the course in 20:31.6 for 44th place. Freshman Mercy Jepkoech finished in 104th place with a time of 21:07.9, and senior Sarah Bertry secured 154th place at 21:33.4. This meet serves as a crucial indicator for teams vying for qualification into the NCAA Championships.
On the men’s side, the Shockers finished seventh, narrowly beating No. 22-ranked Arkansas, with Georgia winning the 8-kilometer race with 119 points. Sophomore Elkana Kipruto delivered a strong performance, finishing second with a time of 22:45.6 – just one second behind the leader. Senior Adrian Diaz-Lopez placed 18th (23:35.7) and sophomore Kelvin Kipyego finished 39th (24:00.4).
