During a conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia, Hashmi opened up about the challenges he faced when his son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. “The most difficult phase of my life was when my son got sick in 2014. It’s something I can’t even put into words how painful that phase was. It went on for almost five years. My life changed overnight. On January 13th, we were going out for lunch. I was having pizza with my son, and that’s when I first noticed the symptom – there was blood in his urine.”
“Within the next three hours, we were at a doctor’s clinic. The doctor told us that my son has cancer and that he needs to be operated on the next day and needs to undergo chemotherapy. In just 12 hours, my world turned upside down. You can say it was a high point in your life, a feeling of having achieved everything. But then, suddenly, it felt like a blow.” Hashmi added.
Hashmi previously discussed his son’s illness during an appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati, sharing that his family experienced immense fear and emotional turmoil throughout Ayaan’s recovery. The star explained that the possibility of the cancer returning was a constant concern. The actor’s story resonates with many, highlighting the emotional toll of childhood cancer and the strength of family bonds.
