Egypt and Saudi Arabia Condemn Incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque
International tensions have escalated following reports that the Israeli National Security Minister and hundreds of settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on May 14, 2026. The incursions have sparked sharp diplomatic rebukes from regional powers, highlighting the volatile nature of the holy site in Jerusalem.

Egypt has issued a statement condemning the storming of the mosque by the Israeli National Security Minister in the strongest possible terms. Similarly, Saudi Arabia denounced what it described as “repeated provocative practices” by Israeli occupation authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The incursions occurred alongside an Israeli march commemorating the occupation of East Jerusalem. Reports indicate that anti-Palestinian chants were heard during the procession, further inflaming local sentiment. At the same time, Israeli forces imposed strict restrictions on Palestinian worshippers, limiting their access to the mosque compound.
These developments underscore the enduring fragility of the status quo in Jerusalem, where religious and political flashpoints frequently risk triggering broader regional instability.
In a separate political development, the Fatah movement has convened its first conference in 10 years. The gathering is intended to elect new leadership for the organization, marking a significant internal shift for the Palestinian faction amid the ongoing unrest.
