Netflix is adding another major star to its macabre hit series “Wednesday.” Actress Eva Green has been cast as Ophelia, Morticia addams’ sister and Wednesday’s aunt, a new character designed to expand the Addams Family lore. Green’s casting reunites her with director Tim Burton, with whom she has collaborated on multiple projects, and promises to deepen the show’s already intriguing mysteries as Wednesday investigates her family’s past.
Eva Green is joining the Addams Family universe. The actress will portray Ophelia, Morticia’s sister and Wednesday’s aunt, in season three of the hit Netflix series “Wednesday,” according to reports.
Tim Burton is expanding the iconic family with the new character, and has tapped Green – a frequent collaborator – for the role. The casting adds another layer of intrigue to the series, which has captivated audiences with its dark and quirky take on the Addams Family.
Like her niece Wednesday, Ophelia possesses powerful psychic abilities. She was previously institutionalized by their mother, Hester, before escaping and disappearing. Wednesday’s search for her aunt is set to be a key storyline in the upcoming season, triggered by a vision of a blonde woman wearing a flower crown while reading her aunt’s diary.
Season two of “Wednesday” ended on a cliffhanger, revealing a mysterious figure in the background wearing a flower crown. Shortly after, Hester descended into the manor basement to discover a prisoner scrawling “Wednesday must die” on the wall.
Not Rosaline Rottwood
Speculation ran rampant among fans that Rosaline Rottwood, the enigmatic teacher at Nevermore Academy portrayed by Lady Gaga in season two, might actually be Ophelia Frump. However, that theory has now been debunked.
Green’s casting marks a reunion with Burton, whom she last worked with on the 2019 film “Dumbo.” Prior to that, they collaborated on “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” in 2016 and “Dark Shadows” in 2012. Filming for the third season is expected to begin in early 2026, with a planned release on Netflix in 2027.
