A former high-ranking Indonesian education official testified tuesday that a member of parliament attempted to influence the Ministry of Education and Culture’s procurement of Chromebook laptops. The testimony, delivered in a Jakarta court on December 23,2025,centers around allegations of a multi-billion rupiah corruption scheme involving the laptop deal and implicates several current and former officials, including Education and culture Minister Nadiem Makarim [[1]]. The case threatens to further expose potential conflicts of interest within Indonesia’s government procurement processes.
A former high-ranking education official testified Tuesday that a former member of Indonesia’s parliament contacted then-Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim regarding the procurement of Chromebook laptops, and subsequently brought potential suppliers to the attention of the ministry. The testimony came during a corruption trial related to the laptop deal, which authorities allege involved billions of rupiah in misappropriated funds.
Jumeri, the former Director General of Educational Technology, Informatics, and Vocational Education, made the claims while testifying in the trial of Sri Wahyuningsih, Director of Elementary School at the Ministry of Education, and Mulyatsyah, Director of Junior High School at the same ministry. Both are accused of corruption in connection with the Chromebook procurement. The hearing took place at the Jakarta Corruption Court on December 23, 2025.
Prosecutors began questioning Jumeri about whether the budget for the technology procurement had been discussed with members of parliament. Jumeri confirmed that the budget was reviewed with the DPR, specifically Commission X.

“During the discussion regarding the state budget, was this discussed with members of parliament?” the prosecutor asked.
“Yes,” Jumeri replied.
“Which commission?” the prosecutor inquired.
“Commission X,” Jumeri stated.
The prosecutor then asked if anyone had attempted to influence the Chromebook procurement process. Jumeri said a member of Commission X contacted Minister Makarim regarding the project.
“During the discussion, were there any parties who tried to get involved in the procurement of the Chromebooks?” the prosecutor asked.
“Yes, there was a member of Commission X who, according to information, contacted the Minister and then requested to contact the Director General at the time, Mr. Hamid, and then it was passed on to me,” Jumeri responded.
“According to information, they contacted the Minister. Whose information was that?” the prosecutor asked.
“From the person who extended the invitation,” Jumeri said.
“From whom?” the prosecutor pressed.
“Ms. Agustina,” Jumeri answered.
Jumeri stated he met with Agustina, identifying her as a member of the PDI-P political party.
“Is this a member of the PDI-P party, a member of parliament?” the prosecutor asked.
“Yes, a member of the PDI-P,” Jumeri confirmed.
Jumeri described the meeting taking place at a hotel, where he was joined by other ministry officials.
“We were invited, and we brought all the directors with us to the Fairmont Hotel, upstairs, but I forgot which floor. We were offered lunch, but we didn’t eat. We excused ourselves because some had to go to the airport, others had another meeting, as the invitation was quite sudden and unplanned. After the meeting, we were invited upstairs, where they introduced several suppliers who would be participating in the technology procurement,” Jumeri explained.
“Who were the suppliers?” the prosecutor asked.
“The names I remember are three people: Hendrik Tio, Michael Sugiarto, and Timothy Sidik,” Jumeri replied.
“Were those three people introduced to the directors?” the prosecutor asked.
“Since my director colleagues were present, they did meet them,” Jumeri said.
Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti served as Deputy Chairman of Commission X in the DPR from 2019 to 2024. She is currently the Mayor of Semarang.
To date, three defendants have begun trial: Sri Wahyuningsih, Director of Elementary School; Mulyatsyah, Director of Junior High School; and Ibrahim Arief, a consultant.
Prosecutors allege the case resulted in a loss of 2.1 trillion rupiah to the state. Minister Makarim is also named as a defendant in the case, but the reading of the charges against him has been postponed due to illness.
