Floridsdorfer AC kicked off their winter preparation with a challenging friendly against Austrian Bundesliga side SCR Altach on Saturday afternoon, falling 0:2 (0:1) despite a spirited performance. This match served as a key early test as teams gear up for the second half of the season.

Juri Kirchmayr proved reliable in goal for Floridsdorfer AC, even in the first outing of the new year.

Altach Takes Early Lead

After a cautious start with few scoring chances, Altach broke the deadlock in the 8th minute when a driven cross was unfortunately deflected into his own net by Floridsdorfer captain Marcus Maier. The Bundesliga team, currently ninth in the standings, gained more control of possession but were repeatedly denied by the alert goalkeeping of Juri Kirchmayr, who impressively saved a dangerous free kick in the 22nd minute.

A worrying moment came shortly after when defender Marco Untergrabner suffered a collision, but thankfully he was able to continue after receiving treatment. As the half progressed, Floridsdorfer AC grew into the match, enjoying longer spells of possession and demonstrating improved physicality and tactical awareness. However, they couldn’t capitalize, and the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

Second-Half Shakeup

Floridsdorfer AC head coach Sinan Bytyqi made almost a complete overhaul at the break, bringing on nine new players. Only goalkeeper Kirchmayr, Neumann, and Huskovic remained on the pitch. The fresh legs injected energy into the team, and they took the initiative, creating several promising opportunities. In the 51st minute, Lukas Gabbichler saw a strong shot from a Moritz Neumann takeaway sail just over the crossbar.

Lan Piskule (66th minute, over the goal) and Gabbichler again, with a close-range effort in the 71st minute, also came close to leveling the score. But against the run of play, Altach launched a swift counterattack and Anteo Fetahu finished clinically to extend their lead to 0-2 in the 75th minute.

Despite falling behind, Floridsdorfer AC continued to push forward, but they were unable to find a way past the Altach defense. The final score of 0-2 didn’t fully reflect the competitive nature of the match.

The team now looks ahead to more intense training weeks in preparation for the season’s resumption. They will travel to Malta next week for a training camp, where they will face Slovenian First League side NK Bravo in another friendly.
