Bethesda has announced that the legendary cryptid Bigfoot will be making an appearance in Fallout 76 with the launch of the “Backwoods” update on March 3, 2026. The company previewed the addition with a teaser campaign mimicking the style of amateur footage attempting to capture evidence of the elusive creature, signaling Bigfoot’s arrival in the Appalachian wilderness.
Expanding the Roster of Cryptids: Bigfoot as a New Challenge
This isn’t Bigfoot’s first mention in Fallout 76. Players previously discovered Bigfoot tracks in the “Burning Springs” update, with the creature occasionally appearing during public events. However, the latest preview suggests Bigfoot will have a more substantial role in the upcoming season.
Fallout 76 already features a number of well-known North American cryptids, including the Jersey Devil, Mothman, Wendigos, Snallygaster, the Glowing One, and the Smiling Man. Given that players can battle all of these creatures, it’s widely expected that Bigfoot will be introduced as a new “mini-boss” for players to challenge. This addition demonstrates Bethesda’s continued commitment to expanding the game’s world with unique and engaging content.
Game Popularity Boosted by Hit TV Series
The popularity of the Fallout franchise has seen a significant surge recently, thanks to the success of the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of the series. Walton Goggins’ character, The Ghoul, was added to the game in a prior update, representing the first major character from the show to be playable. Fans are now keenly anticipating further integration of the show’s narrative into the game, with attention focused on the development of Season 2 and beyond.
Interestingly, Aaron Moten, the actor portraying Maximus from the Brotherhood of Steel, revealed he deliberately avoided playing any Fallout games during filming to fully immerse himself in the role. As the March 3rd release approaches, players can prepare their arsenal to venture into the wasteland and search for Bigfoot.
