Good evening from Basel, Switzerland!

European football fans, get ready for action as Viktoria Plzeň travels to face FC Basel in the final matchday of the Europa League group stage.

Let’s take a look back at Plzeň’s journey through this year’s Europa League campaign.

The Czech side began their group play with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ferencváros. Durosinmi put Plzeň ahead in Budapest, but a late goal from their opponents denied them the victory. Plzeň then returned home to dominate Malmö, securing a convincing 3-0 win. Vydra and Durosinmi gave Plzeň a two-goal lead in the first half, playing against a Malmö side reduced to ten men. Spáčil added a third after the break, solidifying the result.

Next up, Viktoria stunned AS Roma with a 2-1 victory on their own turf at Stadio Olimpico. Prince Adu opened the scoring, followed quickly by a powerful strike from Cheick Souaré. Roma pulled one back through a Dybala penalty, but couldn’t find an equalizer. Plzeň then welcomed Fenerbahce Istanbul to the Czech Republic, playing to a 0-0 draw in a match filled with chances and a vibrant atmosphere.

Plzeň continued their unbeaten run in the competition with another 0-0 draw, this time against Bundesliga side Freiburg. Despite creating numerous opportunities, including a goal disallowed for offside from Durosinmi, they couldn’t break the deadlock. In mid-December, Plzeň traveled to Greece and secured another scoreless draw, this time against Panathinaikos Athens, despite playing most of the match with ten men after Jemelka’s sending off.

Last week, Viktoria hosted Portuguese giants FC Porto and extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-1 draw. Červ gave Plzeň the lead in the sixth minute with a stunning strike, but Porto pressed for an equalizer. A late penalty was awarded to Porto, but Aghehowa missed, and Deniz Gül finally leveled the score in the 90th minute.

The match kicks off at 9:00 PM local time, with Jakub Štěrba providing live text commentary.
