Her former boyfriend, influencer Ivan Cezar Ronquillo, was present at the scene and has been questioned by police, as the investigation continues to unfold and a preliminary cause of death remains undetermined.
A 23-year-old actress and model was found dead in her apartment in Quezon City, Philippines, sparking an outpouring of grief and online outrage directed at her former boyfriend, influencer Ivan Cezar Ronquillo. The death of Gina Lima has quickly become a focal point of discussion regarding domestic violence and accountability in the Philippines.
According to authorities, Ronquillo accompanied the young woman’s parents to her apartment and together they transported her to Quezon City General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Sunday, October 16th. A preliminary report cited “cardiorespiratory arrest” as a possible cause of death, but further examinations are underway to determine the circumstances.
Investigators stated that the case could be classified as a homicide if evidence of foul play emerges. “It could be homicide if an indication of a crime is found, but if there isn’t… the case will be closed,” an investigating official said.
Ronquillo reportedly discovered Lima unresponsive and immediately contacted her parents, who rushed her to the hospital. Police reports indicate that Lima and her ex-boyfriend had been drinking together in the hours leading up to the incident.
“They fell asleep around noon […] She was already unresponsive,” police stated, describing the moment Ronquillo realized Lima was not reacting.
At the hospital, friends of the actress reportedly confronted Ronquillo, who was observed with visible scratches on his face. He attributed the injuries to a scuffle, a claim that was medically evaluated.
Despite friends alleging that Lima had previously displayed bruises during the relationship, police have not yet found evidence to support those claims. “So far, no signs of strangulation or bruises that could have caused death have been found,” the police official confirmed.
The investigation remains open as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding violence against women and the challenges of securing justice in such cases.
