Jakarta – Global shipments of foldable smartphones grew by 14% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2025, marking the highest quarterly increase ever recorded for the category, according to a report released Tuesday, December 2, 2025, by Counterpoint Research.
Foldable smartphones now represent 2.5% of the overall global smartphone market as adoption expands within the premium segment, Counterpoint data shows. Samsung led global foldable smartphone shipments during the quarter.
The South Korean multinational saw its market share in the foldable category rise to 56% in the third quarter of this year, up 8% year-over-year from 54% in the same period of 2024. Total shipments increased 32% annually, driven by the launch of its latest foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The Z Fold 7 features a slimmer design, reduced weight, improved hinge durability, and a minimized screen crease, all of which are expanding its market appeal and contributing to the significant growth. The advancements in foldable technology are steadily addressing previous concerns about durability and usability.
Huawei followed Samsung, securing the second position in the foldable smartphone market with a stable 15% market share. Despite holding steady, Huawei’s foldable shipments increased 10% year-over-year, boosted by the launch of its Mate series.
