Ford is expanding its BlueCruise hands-free driving technology to the Kuga SUV in Europe, beginning with 2026 models. The update, announced on February 11, 2026, marks a significant step in the rollout of the driver-assistance system across the automaker’s European lineup, as the company navigates a shifting automotive landscape.
The 2026 Kuga will feature BlueCruise, allowing for hands-off driving on pre-mapped highways, known as “Blue Zones.” According to Ford, these zones currently cover approximately 95 percent of highways across 16 European countries. The system utilizes steering, acceleration, braking, and lane positioning, and employs an infrared camera to monitor driver attentiveness.
Notably, the American equivalent of the Kuga, the Ford Escape, will not receive the BlueCruise technology for the 2026 model year and is nearing the end of its production run, Carscoops reports. This divergence in features highlights Ford’s strategic prioritization of the Kuga for advanced driver-assistance systems in the European market.
The 2026 Kuga will not include any exterior or interior design changes. Trim levels will continue to include the ST-Line and Active versions. The vehicle will retain its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.2-inch infotainment screen powered by the SYNC 4 system.
BlueCruise will be available through the Driver Assistance Pack, standard on ST-Line X and Active X trims, and optional on Titanium and ST-Line models. Ford will offer access to BlueCruise through a one-time purchase or via monthly and annual subscription plans, starting in April 2026. All eligible trims will also include a three-month trial period. The move towards subscription-based access to advanced features reflects a growing trend in the automotive industry, allowing manufacturers to generate recurring revenue streams and offer customers greater flexibility.
The addition of BlueCruise to the Kuga, alongside its availability in the Puma and Ranger PHEV, underscores Ford’s commitment to enhancing the driving experience with advanced technology. This investment in driver-assistance systems positions the Kuga competitively within the European SUV market.
