Actor and activist Fran Drescher is set to be a guest of honor at the Vienna Opera Ball next month, marking a return to Austria for the “Nanny” star. Drescher, who recently concluded her tenure as president of SAG-AFTRA amidst high-profile Hollywood labor negotiations, expressed her excitement about the visit, calling vienna one of her favorite cities. Her trip will include appearances at both the Opera Ball on February 12th and the Lugner City shopping center, offering a blend of high society and public engagement for the acclaimed actress.

„Ich kann es kaum erwarten, alle in einer meiner Lieblingsstädte der Welt zu sehen: Wien, Österreich“, freute sich Fran Drescher in einer Videobotschaft der Lugner City.

Fran Drescher is heading to Vienna, Austria, and is thrilled about it. “I can hardly wait to see everyone in one of my favorite cities in the world: Vienna, Austria,” Drescher shared in a video message released by the Lugner City.

The beloved actress, best known for her iconic role in the 90s sitcom “The Nanny,” will be a guest of honor at the Vienna Opera Ball on February 12th. Jacqueline Lugner revealed on Thursday that she and her father had long hoped to bring Drescher to Vienna. “I am all the more pleased that we can welcome her as our guest this year,” she said, according to the APA.

Drescher’s visit won’t be limited to the Opera Ball. She’s also scheduled to make an appearance at the Lugner City shopping center, and a comprehensive cultural program is planned during her stay.

Born September 30, 1957, in Queens, New York, Drescher rose to international fame in the 1990s as Fran Fine in “The Nanny.” For six seasons, she captivated audiences with her portrayal of a delightfully brash, fashion-forward nanny with a signature high-pitched voice. The series remains a global phenomenon, enjoyed in over 100 countries and recognized with numerous awards, including an Emmy. Drescher wasn’t just the star of the show; she was also its creator.

Drescher continues to enjoy success on the big screen. Her recent film, “Marty Supreme,” where she plays the mother of a fictional table tennis player, has already won a Golden Globe and received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The film is set to open in Austria in February.

Most recently, Drescher has been a prominent voice as president of SAG-AFTRA during the historic Hollywood strikes. She became a leading figure during the dual writers’ and actors’ strike, and remains a politically engaged activist. Drescher has repeatedly emphasized the invaluable platform her fame provides, using it to advocate for important causes.

In 2000, Drescher was diagnosed with uterine cancer after a long period of misdiagnosis. Following successful treatment, she became a passionate advocate for health awareness and patient rights, founding the Cancer Schmancer organization, which promotes early cancer detection.

This won’t be Drescher’s first visit to Austria. She was a star guest at the “Dancer Against Cancer” gala in Vienna’s Hofburg Palace in 2010, and attended the Life Ball a year earlier. At the time, she particularly appreciated Vienna’s tranquility and cleanliness. (APA)

Drescher’s involvement with the Vienna Opera Ball adds another layer of star power to the prestigious event, which consistently draws international attention.
