Bibi, the daughter of iconic Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, has died at age 48 following a battle with chordoma cancer, according to reports from the Daily Mail. Her passing brings to light a previously little-known aspect of Mercury’s personal life, revealed in author Lesley Ann Jones’ biography Love, Freddie, and adds a poignant new chapter to the legacy of the celebrated singer who died in 1991. Bibi is survived by her husband and two young sons.
Freddie Mercury’s previously unknown daughter, known as Bibi, has died at the age of 48 after a battle with cancer.
She passed away peacefully following a long struggle with chordoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the spine, leaving behind two sons, ages nine and seven, her husband told the Daily Mail.
Her husband added that her ashes were scattered in the Alps, and that she “is now with her beloved and loving father.”
The existence of Mercury’s daughter was first revealed by author Lesley Ann Jones, who detailed the singer’s secret child, known as Bibi, in her book, Love, Freddie. Jones claimed Mercury kept her identity concealed for years—even from bandmates who were aware of her existence but never publicly discussed it. The revelation adds another layer to the enduring fascination with the iconic frontman.
In a letter from Bibi, cited by British media, she affirmed that the singer was her father: “We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the last 15 years of his life. He adored me and was very devoted.”
Despite his public persona, Freddie Mercury had relationships with women, most notably Mary Austin. He died in 1991 at the age of 45 from AIDS.
