COACHES’ COMMENTS
Jesper Jensen: – I’m not happy with the result, but I am with how we played despite the absence of our injured players. On this match, we also lost Emily Vogel after ten minutes, and Darja Dmitrieva and Petra Simon had to finish the match, giving everything they had.
Per Johansson: – In the first half, Fradi solved their defense better, although we had more technical errors. I was happy that we were only down by three at halftime. In the second half, we countered more, and despite our three substitutions, we didn’t suffer. What we have is a win-like draw on Wednesday.

SUMMARY

FTC came out firing, overwhelming Győr early in a determined effort to avenge their 32-17 defeat from the autumn matchup. The home side displayed immediate motivation, racing to a 4-0 lead, and nearly extending it further with a missed opportunity from Júlia Hársfalvi.

Both Jesper Jensen and Per Johansson named 14 players to the matchday roster, with Gréta Márton and Dragana Cvijics returning from injury, while the visiting side was missing all of their planned line-up of pivot players for various reasons. Ida-Marie Dahl, recently signed to fill the void, made her debut, but struggled to find space as her teammates couldn’t create opportunities in the first half…

Győr didn’t appear completely caught off guard by FTC’s early intensity, but by halftime, the game largely unfolded as Jesper Jensen envisioned. Petra Simon and Darja Dmitrijeva delivered outstanding performances, while Bruna de Paula consistently outmaneuvered her opponents, and Emilie Hovden provided stability. The teams went into the break with FTC leading 14–11. The first half also saw Emily Vogel forced to exit the game in the 13th minute with a calf injury, a blow for FTC coach Jesper Jensen.

The second half continued at a frantic pace, with the atmosphere at the Elek Gyula Aréna reminiscent of handball’s golden era. This passion translated onto the court, with a blend of spectacular plays and physical intensity. Győr’s shooters began to contribute more as the home defense tired, with Dione Housheer playing a key role in the visitors taking a 21-20 lead.

The score was 21-20 for Győr in the 45th minute, and FTC briefly regained the advantage, but De Paula continued to cause problems, allowing ETO to seize control. With five minutes remaining, and Housheer converting a penalty, saves from Blanka Böde-Bíró proved crucial. The final minute saw a frantic attack from FTC, with Kristina Jörgensen scoring, but Dmitrijeva salvaged a point for FTC with a late penalty conversion. Despite the draw, Győr can celebrate, as they are now within reach of another league title. 28–28
