Samsung is expanding the rollout of its January 2026 security update for the Galaxy Watch 6, demonstrating a continued commitment to supporting its wearable devices with long-term software maintenance. The update initially began distribution in South Korea and is now available in India, with further expansion to other international markets expected soon.
The latest software package is currently being released for Galaxy Watch 6 models with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, while the LTE variant will receive the update in a subsequent phase. The new firmware carries the model version R950XXS1CZA1 and has a download size of approximately 157.99 MB, suggesting a relatively quick installation process for most users.
Security Improvements are the Focus
Unlike previous updates that introduced new features or visual changes, this release is focused exclusively on enhancing the security of the device. The January 2026 security patch addresses a total of 53 security vulnerabilities present in the previous version of the operating system, a significant step in protecting user data.
According to the release notes, the fixes are distributed across different areas of the device’s software. Thirty of the corrections originate from Samsung’s mobile division, four are related to the semiconductor division and 21 were provided by Google for the underlying operating system. This comprehensive approach ensures the watch remains protected against the latest threats, safeguarding users’ health and personal information. The ongoing focus on security updates highlights the increasing importance of protecting personal data on wearable technology.
Maintaining an Up-to-Date System
It’s important to note that this update does not include any new visual or functional features. Major enhancements were recently delivered in November 2025 with the release of One UI 8 Watch. This update serves to consolidate the stability and security of that earlier version.
As SamMobile reports, the update is rolling out gradually to more regions. To check for availability, users should navigate to the device settings, select “Software update,” and then choose the option to download and install. Samsung recommends ensuring the watch has at least 30% battery charge before initiating the process.
