Sony Interactive Entertainment reported strong initial sales for its recently released open-world title, Ghost of Yotei, reaching 3.3 million units globally as of November 2, 2025. The launch is being closely watched as a barometer for the continued success of the PlayStation 5, with the company reporting 84.2 million consoles shipped as of September 30, 2025. While a strong start, Sony notes comparisons to its 2020 hit Ghost of Tsushima must account for differing market conditions adn the PS5’s current place in its hardware lifecycle.

Ghost of Yotei, the latest open-world adventure from Sony, has surpassed 3.3 million units sold globally as of November 2, 2025, the company revealed in its recent quarterly financial report. This figure marks a strong start for the title, which launched on October 2, 2025.

For comparison, Ghost of Tsushima achieved 2.4 million sales within its first three days and approximately 5 million within its first four months. Sony cautioned, however, that this comparison must be viewed in context. Ghost of Tsushima released later in the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle, benefiting from a significantly larger installed hardware base.

The company also reported 84.2 million PlayStation 5 units shipped as of September 30, 2025. This number is roughly in line with PlayStation 4 shipments at a comparable point in its lifecycle, suggesting continued strong demand for Sony’s current-generation console. The console’s performance is a key indicator of the health of the gaming ecosystem.

Ghost of Yotei also appears to be gaining traction in the European market. According to data from GSD Chart, the game was PlayStation’s biggest first-party launch in Europe since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
