Google on Tuesday unveiled Gemini 3,its next-generation artificial intelligence model, marking a significant leap forward in the rapidly evolving field of AI. The new model, which Google claims surpasses existing systems in multimodal understanding, is promptly available to developers and users in the United States. This launch intensifies competition wiht OpenAI and signals a broader trend of increasingly sophisticated AI tools becoming integrated into everyday applications, from search to education and creative workflows. Google also announced a special program offering free access to its AI Pro suite for all U.S. college students for one year.
Google unveiled its latest artificial intelligence model, Gemini 3, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, touting it as its most capable AI to date and “the best model in the world in multimodal understanding.”
The launch underscores the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and the increasing ability of these systems to process diverse forms of data. Gemini 3 is designed to simultaneously process text, images, audio, and video, and function as a digital “agent” capable of building applications on demand, explained Koray Kavukcuoglu, head of Google’s artificial intelligence efforts.
The new model is available starting today to users and developers in the United States through the Gemini app, which Google reports has 650 million monthly users. More than two billion users access the technology by default through the Google search engine. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, emphasized that Gemini 3 is engineered to “capture depth and nuance,” and noted that AI has evolved in just two years “from reading text and images to reading the environment.”
With this release, Google is directly challenging OpenAI, which recently introduced GPT-5. The company is immediately offering access to its flagship version, Gemini 3 Pro, while Gemini 3 Deep Think will be available soon to subscribers of Google AI Ultra. The system will also be integrated into AI Mode, AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the new agent development platform, Google Antigravity.
Google stated that Gemini 3 will enable the creation of interactive learning experiences across a wide range of subjects. As part of the launch, the company announced that all college students in the United States will receive a year of free access to Google AI Pro. Enhanced coding capabilities within Gemini 3 Pro will also allow for the creation of more sophisticated visualizations, Google added.
