The Gourin municipal library has bolstered its team with the temporary addition of Laure Rose, working alongside Claire Le Mené, the site’s manager, while library assistant Gaëdig Huellou is on depart. Rose, who comes from the Quimperlé area, is a former physical sciences teacher.
“These are skills that didn’t yet exist at the library,” explained Le Mené. “Laure has created a thematic space linked to the Epsilon mission and current scientific events—a way to take an interest in the mission of Sophie Adenot, the French engineer and astronaut who recently joined the International Space Station with three other astronauts.”
Rose is also responsible for overseeing school visits to the library, leading reading sessions and assisting students with their selections.
The library, like other libraries in the Gwezenn network, will participate in the “Je lis la Bretagne” (I read Brittany) month in March, according to Le Mené. “The goal is to promote Breton language and culture, and to highlight books in or about Brittany.”
The initiative underscores a growing trend of regional cultural institutions leveraging technology and digital resources to preserve and promote local languages and heritage. The library’s focus on the Epsilon mission and scientific literacy also demonstrates a commitment to integrating current events and STEM education into its programming.
