Standard Liège forward Grejohn Kyei finds himself in a challenging position despite having joined the Belgian club on a free transfer in 2024 [[2]]. The 30-year-old attacker, who previously had a loan spell with rival club Charleroi [[1]],has found himself sidelined and is actively seeking a move during the winter transfer window to reignite his career.Kyei recently detailed a series of behind-the-scenes shifts in the club’s management and coaching staff that have contributed to his current predicament.
Arriving in Belgium in 2024, the French forward finds himself surplus to requirements with his club and is seeking a swift resolution to reignite his career.
Grejohn Kye is still searching for an exit, hoping to find one this winter. He joined Sclessin on a free transfer but was quickly loaned to Charleroi before returning – a situation he describes as problematic. “It didn’t go well from the start. I arrived and two months later, I had to leave for another club (Charleroi). And it was a rival club, to make matters worse,” the player revealed in a recent interview.
A Complicated Start in Belgium
“It was a complicated arrival in Belgium. I came in with one management team and coach, then was loaned out. When I returned, the sporting director had changed and the coach was gone. In July, I was told I could look for a new club and continue training. They didn’t have any other forwards yet, but gradually I was left out, and that was that,” Kye explained.
“I thought maybe at the end of the transfer window I’d be back with the first team. That no matter what, I’d keep training and the coach would decide, but it didn’t happen that way. When you’re not with the first team and not training with them, you can’t change anything. You’re stuck in your situation,” he added.
Patience is Key
“You’re not prepared for this. The club recruits you, they should have you in the first team, doing the training, and even if they want you to leave, at least give you playing time so other clubs can see you,” Kye continued.
“I’m dealing with the current situation as best I can. I haven’t dwelled on it, I’ve trained, I’ve remained pleasant with everyone, and I’m being patient, but it’s not easy to live through. I’m open to all kinds of projects. I just want to play again to get back into a rhythm and rediscover the joy of the game. That’s what interests me most,” said the 30-year-old attacker.
