Harry Potter Series: First Look at Diagon Alley Set Revealed

The magical world is starting to grab shape… and we’re getting a first look at Diagon Alley for the upcoming Harry Potter series. Despite Warner Bros.’s efforts to keep everything under wraps, satellite images have revealed one of the most important sets for the new HBO adaptation.

And it appears the televised Harry Potter is going all-in on building a massive and remarkably realistic magical world. The images demonstrate something many fans were hoping for: a gigantic Diagon Alley directly connected to Gringotts bank.

Images discovered by a keen-eyed fan showcase several sets built for the Harry Potter series, including what appear to be Hagrid’s house, Privet Drive, and the famed Diagon Alley. The latter has drawn the most attention, as the scale of the set is quite impressive.

The set appears to recreate an entire street with numerous facades of magical shops and a direct entrance to Gringotts bank. Photos reveal a full studio has been constructed behind the facades, meaning actors will be able to physically walk through Diagon Alley and enter the bank without relying solely on green screens.

Here’s a clear indication that the Harry Potter series intends to utilize practical sets whenever possible. And that’s something fans will appreciate. When actors can interact with physical environments, everything feels more authentic – from movements and expressions to how they navigate the space.

the size of the set suggests HBO isn’t skimping on the budget. While Warner Bros. Hasn’t confirmed official figures, it’s believed the first season of Harry Potter has one of the highest budgets ever invested in a streaming series.

What is Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter Story

For those needing a refresher, Diagon Alley is one of the most important locations in the Harry Potter universe, first appearing in the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, published in 1997.

In the story, Hagrid takes Harry to this magical alley hidden in London, where wizards purchase everything needed for their schooling at Hogwarts. It’s essentially the shopping center of the magical world, filled with legendary shops like Ollivanders, where Harry buys his wand, or Flourish and Blotts, the bookstore where he acquires his schoolbooks.

It’s also where Gringotts, the wizarding bank, is located, guarded by goblins and famous for its underground chambers filled with treasure. In the first Harry Potter novel, Harry visits Gringotts to access the fortune his parents left for him.

Diagon Alley isn’t just a pretty setting. It represents the moment Harry discovers he belongs to another world. That walk through the magical shops is, in a way, the gateway to the Harry Potter universe.

The Series Aims to Take the Magical World to the Next Level

Warner Bros. Discovery is determined to develop the Harry Potter series a grand undertaking. J.B. Perrette, CEO of streaming and gaming for the company, recently spoke about the enormous effort being dedicated to the production.

According to Perrette, producer David Heyman, who also worked on the original films, is overseeing an extremely high level of detail in every aspect of the project. The goal is to make the magical world feel even more complete and immersive than it was in the films.

The advantage of a series is clear: there’s much more time to develop the story. While a film has to condense the plot into a couple of hours, the Harry Potter series will be able to explore subplots, secondary characters, and moments from the book that were previously left out.

Perrette even stated that this project could become the streaming event of the decade. While that sounds ambitious, given the scale of the sets built for Diagon Alley, it doesn’t seem like an exaggeration.

A Completely New Cast for the World of Harry Potter

The new adaptation of Harry Potter will feature an entirely different cast than the films. Young Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

The young cast also includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley.

The adult cast also features some notable names. John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer will portray Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu will be Severus Snape. Nick Frost will also appear as the beloved Hagrid.

Other familiar characters will also appear in the Harry Potter series, such as Lucius Malfoy played by Johnny Flynn, Petunia Dursley by Bel Powley, and Vernon Dursley by Daniel Rigby.

The Big Mystery of the Harry Potter Series

Despite all the information emerging about the project, one big question remains unanswered: Who will play Lord Voldemort?

Rumors have circulated for months that Cillian Murphy could take on the role of the most feared villain in the wizarding world, with Paul Bettany now also being mentioned. However, Warner Bros. Hasn’t confirmed anything officially.

The Harry Potter series is being written by Francesca Gardiner, while Mark Mylod will direct several episodes and serve as an executive producer. The project also counts J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and David Heyman among its producers.

With filming already underway in the United Kingdom and massive sets like Diagon Alley taking shape, everything points to HBO wanting to build a version of the Harry Potter universe that will accompany viewers for years to arrive. And given how they’re building magical sets the size of a small town, things are looking quite spectacular.

Now the big question is inevitable: Can you imagine walking through Diagon Alley again in the Harry Potter series? Let us realize what you think of this first look, and be sure to follow us on Google News to stay up-to-date on all the latest news from the wizarding world. 🧙‍♂️✨
