A woman in her 30s died Friday evening in Haugesund, Norway, after police responded to reports of a disturbance at a local residence. The incident underscores the tragic reality of domestic disputes and their potential for fatal outcomes.

Officers and an ambulance were dispatched to the address around 8 p.m. Local time after a passerby reported hearing an argument, according to police.

“Upon arrival, a woman in her 30s was found unresponsive,” said police attorney Fredrik Martin Soma in a statement to NRK. “Efforts to revive her were unfortunately unsuccessful.”

Familierelasjon

The woman was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.

A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene and is now a suspect in the woman’s death, Soma confirmed.

Authorities have stated that there is a family relationship between the suspect and the victim, but have not yet disclosed the nature of that connection.

The charges were filed based on initial investigations and assessments from medical personnel and police at the location, according to officials.

Police have declined to comment on the details surrounding the alleged homicide.

Authorities are also not commenting on whether any evidence has been collected at the scene, or the extent of any injuries sustained by the victim.

“We see very early in the investigation, and there are several things we are working on that we cannot release to the media at this time,” Soma said.

An autopsy of the victim is scheduled to be performed as early as Saturday morning.

“Can you rule out the possibility of other suspects?”

“We do not suspect that anyone else was involved. But, as I said, we are early in the investigation, so it is too early to completely rule that out,” Soma said.

“Has the suspect been questioned?”

– She has not been questioned at this time. It is more likely that will happen tomorrow morning,” Soma told NRK at 1:30 a.m. Local time.

Police are continuing their investigation overnight. The area around the residence remains cordoned off.
