Despite a current focus on the forthcoming James Bond title, 007: solstice, developer IO Interactive has reassured fans that the Hitman franchise is far from over. CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed to Gaming Bolt on December 2nd that new Hitman installments are in development, affirming the studio’s commitment to Agent 47 following the successful World of Assassination trilogy. While a new title isn’t imminent, the studio plans to share updates on a potential co-op mode next year, signaling continued investment in the beloved stealth-action series.

Fans of the critically acclaimed stealth-action series *Hitman* have reason to celebrate: IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has confirmed that new installments are in development, despite the studio’s current focus on the upcoming James Bond game, *007: Solstice*.

Speaking to Gaming Bolt on December 2, Abrak emphasized the studio’s long-standing connection to the *Hitman* franchise. “We’ve created other original IPs from scratch, and in fact ‘Bond’ is the only external IP we’re currently working on,” he said. “In a way, after 25 years of making spy games, doing *007* feels like a natural fit. But without a doubt, *Hitman* has always been our flagship, a franchise the studio deeply loves.”

While *Hitman 3* isn’t the end of Agent 47’s story, fans will need to exercise some patience. The studio has several projects in the pipeline, meaning a new *Hitman* game isn’t imminent.

“So, we will definitely make another *Hitman* game,” Abrak confirmed. “But we need to wait until next year to release the latest news about *Hitman*’s co-op mode. We think cooperative gameplay is a very good expansion for the series’ IP universe, and can bring very interesting mechanisms and combinations. IT之家 reports that after that, we will continue to release news about the next *Hitman* game.” The news offers a reassuring outlook for fans who feared the franchise might be shelved following the studio’s commitment to the Bond universe.

Though details about *Hitman 4* remain scarce, Jacob Mikkelsen, the studio’s chief level designer, expressed satisfaction with the studio’s past work. He noted that 2012’s *Hitman: Absolution* stood out due to its more linear level design.
